Drawing from the visual vocabulary of Indian miniature painting and Pichwai, Mahol Pura Wavy places a contemporary woman inside a world of ornament, movement and abundance. The work reimagines the dramatic energy of Hokusai’s The Great Wave through an Indian lens, where flowers, birds, animals and decorative motifs spill into an almost dreamlike landscape.

The figure at its centre is caught between departure and adventure, moving forward without the certainty of knowing exactly where the wave will take her. Around her, familiar symbols of contemporary life sit comfortably within this fantastical setting, creating a playful tension between the historical and the present.

The work is ultimately about movement, freedom and the pleasure of choosing your own direction, without taking any of it too seriously.
