Inspired by Maharani Jind Kaur, the last Queen of Punjab, Heer Returns is my way of looking at Punjab through the woman it has always celebrated: strong, rooted, expressive and full of spirit.

The painting brings together the richness of Punjabi culture through its textiles, jewellery, colours, patterns and sense of grandeur, with the world of the woman we see today. The Birkin becomes a quiet symbol of that shift, from inherited traditions to contemporary aspirations, without losing the connection to where we come from.

I wanted Heer to feel neither entirely from the past nor entirely of the present. She carries Punjab with her, but she also belongs to today.

For me, Heer Returns is about how culture evolves without disappearing, and how a woman can carry her heritage forward while creating an identity of her own.
